Whew! I have to admit that constantly doing in-depth Bible study is hard work. And while I will continue to do it (after all, I love it!), an occasional break for humor can benefit us all. I've made a few dinners like this.... [For those of you who don't know, my "real" life is being "The Housewife Modern" while this website and study and are for faith and growth reasons.] And anyone who has had a cat understands completely: Thank you to my friend Neth for finding the cat one!

Whew! I have to admit that constantly doing in-depth Bible study is hard work. And while I will continue to do it (after all, I love it!), an occasional break for humor can benefit us all. As I love cats, I found this great.... Thanks to "Know Your Meme" for the humor. (I used their code for embedding this on a site...so I'm assuming it's all right to share it!) As Pope Francis is Time's Person of the Year and due to the fact that I highly respect him, I've decided to share some of his words with everyone. "If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, well who am I to judge them?" "Women are asking deep questions that must be addressed. The church cannot be herself without the woman and her role. The woman is essential for the church. Mary, a woman, is more important than the bishops." "How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?" “To love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person and face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely. And you are, dear brothers and sisters, in the face of Jesus.” I've also included a link to his Apostolic Exhortation. (I've left the URL unmasked in case the link doesn't work for you...then you can just cut and paste!). The PDF document is also available at /beyond-the-bible.html http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium_en.pdf Whew! I have to admit that constantly doing in-depth Bible study is hard work. And while I will continue to do it (after all, I love it!) I am going to incorporate a lighter side to this blog. So, look for more frequent posts and a bit of lighter content. GOOD SAMARITAN A Sunday school teacher was telling her? class the story of the Good Samaritan. She asked the class, "If you saw a person lying on the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?" A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, "I think I'd throw up.." My grandma sent me an e-mail with this story/joke in it. The e-mail claimed it was a true story, but as I cannot verify the truthfulness of the tale, I'm going to post it as a joke. Enjoy! The pastor of a church had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten. That's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went 'boing!' and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight. The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, 'Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping,' and went on about his business. A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, 'Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?' She replied, 'You won't believe this,' and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing.. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, 'Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it.' She told the pastor, 'I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her.' Someone gave me this poem when my great-grandmother died about two weeks before Christmas. I shared it with the family, and it meant a lot to all of us. I checked on the internet, and found it was quite popular, but I can't find an author. Should anyone know who the author is, please let me know so I can give them credit. My Christmas in Heaven I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below. With tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, reflecting on the snow. The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away that tear, For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear, but the sound of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here. I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring, for it is beyond description to hear the angels sing. I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart, but I am not so far away, we really aren't apart. So be happy for me dear ones. You know I hold you dear, and be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I send you each a special gift from my heavenly home above, I send you each a memory of my undying love. After all, "love" is the gift, more precious than pure gold. It was always most important in the stories that Jesus told. Please love and keep each other, as my father said to do, for I can't count the blessings or the love He has for each of you. So, have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear. Remember, I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. |

Oh creator of the universe, who has set the stars in the heavens and causes the sun to rise and set, shed the light of your wisdom into the darkness of my mind. Fill my thoughts with a loving knowledge of you, that I may bring you like to others. Just as you can make even babies speak your truth, instruct my tongue and guide my pen to convey the wonderful glory of the Gospel. Make my intellect sharp, my memory clear, and my words eloquent, so that I may faithfully interpret the mysteries what you have revealed. Categories

To my readers & fellow writers,
I promise: 1. I will pray that God's grace helps illuminate all of our interactions- both those of simple reading and more active conversations. 2. I will communicate with you respectfully and civilly. These are (rightly) issues which we feel passionate about. But even in disagreements, I will respect you fellow "seekers of truth." 3. I will not fall into negative behavior or words, such as insinuations, exaggerations, blames, or personal attacks. I respectfully ask you to do the same. 4. I will pray we will all find the truth and strive to fulfill the two greatest commandments: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these."
